Personal Info and Background:

Having been "sport mad" at school, I was very proud to go to Loughborough University of Technology to do my BSc Honours degree in Physical Education and Sports Science. Here I was privileged to be tutored by Sports Science lecturers who were expert in their fields, and trained with elite young sportsmen and women at the top of their chosen sports. This unique environment confirmed my love and commitment to Physical Education and also reinforced my fascination in Human Biology and Physiology.

Having achieved a First Class Honours in my degree, I also completed my teacher training at Loughborough. This ethos of excellence, along with being a resident tutor for the LTA at the Rover Tennis School, Bisham Abbey NSC during my first 7 years of teaching, gave me great insight into and experience of elite level personal training. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching Physical Education to secondary school children for 20 years, helping them enjoy sport and exercise, and find activities that they would enjoy in adult life to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

I am now continuing my commitment and enthusiasm for sport, health and fitness as a Personal Trainer and Nutritionist. I enjoy using my teaching experience working on a more personal, one-to-one basis with people of all ages, and gain great satisfaction from helping others enjoy exercise and achieve their health and fitness goals.

Philosophy:

To achieve a healthy lifestyle, the exercise and activities you choose have to be enjoyable.

They are then more likely to become a regular and integral part of your weekly routine, and ultimately be sustainable. I will help you set realistic and attainable targets as stepping stones, whatever your fitness level.

If you feel as though you are achieving, this helps enjoyment and satisfaction, and builds self-motivation during your journey. I use a variety of personal training exercises and activities to sustain interest and help find out what works for you. Everyone has very different personal attributes and goals, so whether it is a walk in the countryside or a high impact aerobics class, I will help you make the best exercise choices for you. You also have to feel comfortable in your personal training environment. You may be happiest in the great outdoors, or in the comfort and privacy of your own home, or a mixture of both may work best for you. The benefits of achieving a healthy, balanced lifestyle are both physiological and psychological. A healthy heart, toning, good posture and maintaining a healthy body weight are all important examples, but to see someone gain self-esteem, confidence and "zest for life" as their fitness improves is also very inspiring and rewarding.

Areas of Expertise:

  • General fitness training programmes
  • Nutrition

Supporting Cancer Research

When I lost my sister to breast cancer in 2005, I found great solace in running. It was then that I decided to use what I enjoyed doing, and support the charities that helped me and my family through those difficult times. I ran in a Cancer Research UK "Run 10K" event, raised a little sponsorship money and it was a fun, inspiring and uplifting experience.

I now participate in Cancer Research UK events every year, including the Race 4 Life and the annual Marlow to Henley 10K walk for Breast Cancer. It is great motivation to have an event to train for, even if you are just participating for fun and aiming to finish. You are welcome to join me at any of these events, reap the rewards of your personal training, have fun and help raise money for these fantastic charities in the process!
